2. No Second Chances— An IFR Approach Scenario.
In this IFR Mastery Scenario, you are flying a well-equipped Beech Sundowner from Abilene, Texas back home to Mc Alester, Oklahoma. There is a forecast for low ceilings at your destination, but there are two RNAV approaches including an LPV. As you approach Mc Alester, the weather is barely above approach minimums. You execute the approach, but a miscue activating the approach lights forces a missed approach.

Pilots undergo recurrent checks and proficiency checks administered by check airmen who observe and evaluate to ensure compliance and standardization throughout the company and industry. These checks are pass or fail. Doctors, lawyers, and judges are not checked to ensure their ability to perform their duties.
